In 2005, the MFFL adopted the idea of using an annual theme for all team names.  Originally, themes were decided by the MFFL Commissioner.  This was later changed following the 2014 season, where the honor of choosing the naming theme for the upcoming season was granted as a reward to the previous year's league champion.
